Harkness Ballet soloist Brunilda Ruiz performs "Feast of Ashes"

Brunilda Ruiz as Adela the youngest daughter in an emotional solo. Choreographer Alving Ailey used the chair to symbolize the unyielding pressure she faced from her family and society. Adela begins to bow in resignation. Her tense jaw, her arms and the clenched fists behind her back betray her anguish.
